By night, I work as a translator for an investment bank in Tokyo, by day I try to make a dent in my piles of books at home in Portland, Oregon. Many people equate Japanese literature with the sombre and austere or the quirky and grotesque. I wanted to share the books that might never be translated into English, but that have made my years of Japanese study pay off many times over.
